The passing of Julião Sarmento represents a great loss for Portuguese art and culture. With a career that is recognised both in Portugal and internationally, the artist, who is represented in the EDP Foundation Art Collection, has undoubtedly contributed to the establishment and reputation of Portuguese contemporary art. Julião Sarmento maintained a close and affective relationship with the EDP Foundation, which translated into regular collaboration, both in the form of exhibitions of his works, and through the exhibition Elective Affinities, in which the artist revealed his facet as a collector of other artists. The EDP Foundation would like to express its heartfelt condolences to Julião Sarmento’s family, in the certain knowledge that his work will go on to influence future generations.
