They’re aged between 15 and 19 and many of them went up on stage at the Tomar Polytechnic Institute on 7 June to share their experiences of taking part in a school exchange programme. Around 360 students from schools across several of the country’s regions where EDP has energy production operations took part in the 7th edition of “Partilha com Energia” (Energy Sharing), a programme promoted by EDP since 2014 and which is part of the Education on Energy initiatives that the EDP Foundation organises with schools.

In a partnership with the Directorate-General for Education, this programme responds to the National Strategy of Education for Citizenship by promoting the development of social and relational skills in young people attending secondary and vocational education.

Throughout the 2022/23 school year, 16 schools and 40 teachers from Sines, Azambuja, Tomar, Constância, Sertã, Figueira da Foz, Peso da Régua, Cinfães, Lamego, Póvoa de Lanhoso, Ponte da Barca, Marinha Grande and Proença-a-Nova took part in the “Energy Sharing” initiative.

Aimed at promoting strong relationships between communities, and particularly among the younger population, “Energy Sharing” wishes to bring to light the resources of the various territories and contribute to promote their value, providing students with a real entrepreneurial experience. The teams are responsible for planning, managing (budgets and logistics) and implementing exchanges with schools from different municipalities, thus promoting knowledge sharing about each territory over the course of those trips.

The “Energy Sharing” programme was created in 2014 and it is one of the many social impact initiatives promoted by EDP among communities, thus reinforcing its commitment to society and to the imperative of energy transition. Since its inception, this educational programme has already mobilised around 2,360 students and 320 teachers from 48 schools across Portugal, which have carried out over 78 exchanges between regions.
