Anima Vectorias

Anima Vectorias, Angela Bulloch

Projections, 3-D animations, avatars and virtual reality devices. The installation which Angela Bulloch (1966, Ontario, Canada) designed specifically for MAAT’s Oval Gallery also includes some of the artist’s most iconic pieces, such as her geometrical stacked columns – polyhedron columns stacked with stylised geometry – and wall paintings, as well as works linked to cybernetics, interactivity, simulation and immersion concepts.

In the same line as previous interventions at the Oval Gallery, Angela Bulloch now brings to this space a unique proposition which integrates new digital technology and contemporary art. This installation combines the research developed by the artist in the areas of time and space with the particular and acoustic specificities [RM1] of the room. Animas Vectorias is curated by João Ribas and Inês Grosso.

Having studied at Goldsmiths College, in London, and being part of the so-called “YBA generation” (Young British Artists), Angela Bulloch’s work explores various forms, revealing a particular fascination with systems, patterns and rules, placing herself in a creative territory that lies somewhere between mathematics and aesthetics. Her work is present at many private institutions and collections, including the Tate Gallery (London); Centre Pompidou (Paris); National Gallery of Melbourne (Australia); Berlinische Galerie (Berlin); and the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.
