2017 BRINGS WITH IT A NEW CENTRE: ARTEJO

After opening in Trás-os-Montes, Algarve and Alentejo regions of Portugal, EDP Foundation Public Art has now extended to Ribatejo and the sub-region of Médio Tejo.

Several artistic initiatives will be promoted in four local councils of the municipality of Vila Nova da Barquinha, including discussions in Communal Assemblies. These will be promoted by artists such as Alexandre Farto (Vhils) and Manuel João Vieira.

Named ARTEJO, this project is a partnership between the Municipality and EDP Foundation.

Focused on areas with low population densities in Portugal, this project promotes participation of local residents in new cultural experiences as well as art creation in rural areas.

Projects are implemented with a first stage which introduces the artists, a second stage for presenting proposals, a third stage for artistic interventions, and finally a fourth stage of guided tours.

In Trás-os-Montes, the artists associated with the project are Gabriela Vaz Pinheiro, Nuno Pimenta, Sofia Borges, R2 Design, FAHR 021.3, students of the Master in Art and Design for Public Space, Cristina Mateus, Fernando José Pereira, MAR, Pedro Almeida, Miguel Schreck and Ricardo Santos. In Ribatejo, the interventions will be by João Seguro, SAMINA, Alecrim and Desejos Urbanos. In Alentejo, the artists Silveirinha, NADA, ORPHÃO and André Clérigo will be involved, whereas in the Algarve the participating artists will be XANA, Mariana A Miserável, Jorge Pereira, Menau, Padure, Susana Gaudêncio and Tiago Batista.
