EDP FOUNDATION SPONSORS RENOVATION WORKS AT LISBON’S IPO

EDP Foundation has joined forces with Lisbon’s IPO and the Claude and Sofia Marion Foundation to promote the renovation of the waiting room and doctor’s surgeries in the Hospital’s Medical Pavilion.

In the year when Lisbon’s IPO celebrates its 90th anniversary, these renovations allow the facility to offer better working conditions for the healthcare professionals, and to promote an evolution in the process of patient care, adding value to the care provided.

The Medical Pavilion in Lisbon’s IPO opened in June 1971 and was initially used as a Patients’ Hospice. As Medical Oncology developed, the space was adapted to receive and accommodate patients undergoing treatment, and also used as doctor’s surgeries, laboratories and a day hospital.

On average, over 600 patients use this space every day, for over 200 thousand annual appointments in medical oncology and haematology. The renovation work conducted in the waiting room and adjacent doctor’s surgeries enables the institute to provide patients and their companions with more comfortable and welcoming spaces.

“These patronage initiatives are a way of reinforcing social cohesion”, said Paulo Macedo, Health minister, who attended the opening ceremony of the renovated spaces on 5 October.

As well as Lisbon’s IPO, EDP Foundation is also donating equipment, supplies and renovation works to spaces in Garcia de Orta Hospital (Almada), Coimbra’s Hospital and University Centre and Santo António Hospital (Porto), representing a total investment of approximately one million euros.
