Four Elements

'Four Elements' is the third exhibition in the Porto Municipal Gallery’s 2017 programming, of which the EDP Foundation is patron.
Water, Earth, Fire and Air are the roots of this exhibition structured on the cosmogonic idea of the Natural Elements, which inspired thinkers from various eras and continues to influence contemporary creation, namely in the visual arts.
Four curators were invited for this project, and each one was given an Element: Ana Luísa Amaral - Water / Eduarda Neves - Earth / Pedro Faro - Fire / Nuno Faria - Air. Based on this premise, the exhibition develops from four curatorial projects and languages, which interpret the four natural elements in an isolated or contaminated manner.
The exhibition includes works by international artists, writers and other thinkers – such as Douglas Gordon, Martha Rosler, Julius Eastman, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Aki Nagasaka and James Baldwin – as well as national participants – such as Vasco Araújo, Mariana Caló & Francisco Queimadela, João Pedro Vale & Nuno Alexandre Ferreira, Júlio Pomar, Salomé Lamas and Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen.
