The jury of the 13th edition of EDP Foundation’s New Artists Award has elected Diana Policarpo as the winner, and granted a special mention to Isabel Madureira Andrade.
The six exhibition finalists were selected from among more than 530 candidates by curators Inês Grosso, Sara Antónia Matos and João Silvério.
The jury highlighted Diana Policarpo’s “coherence between research and narrative”, translated into “an innovative multimedia installation with great emphasis on the sound component, creating an immersive atmosphere which provides great efficiency in the relationship between the artist’s idealised concept and its implementation within the space”.
The honourable mention granted to Isabel Madureira Andrade is “an incentive to the youngest candidate for the energy and technique revealed in her painting”.
The award, in the amount of 20 thousand euros, aims to support the artist’s creative and research work and to promote her career abroad.
The works by the six finalist artists – Isabel Madureira Andrade, Mónica de Miranda, Diana Policarpo, Henrique Pavão, Dealmeida Esilva and AnaMary Bilbao – are being exhibited at Tejo Power Station until 9 September, in an exhibition curated by Inês Grosso, Sara Antónia Matos and João Silvério.
The EDP Foundation's New Artists Award was established in 2000 for the purpose of discovering new national creative talents in visual arts. The award is renowned as one of the most relevant in the Portuguese artistic scene.
The winners of the previous editions are: Joana Vasconcelos, Leonor Antunes, Vasco Araújo, Carlos Bunga, João Maria Gusmão and Pedro Paiva, João Leonardo, André Romão, Gabriel Abrantes, Priscila Fernandes, Ana Santos, Mariana Silva and Claire de Santa Coloma.
