In the 2025 edition of the Solidarity in Mobility programme, the EDP Foundation supported 23 social institutions across the country, with an estimated impact on the lives of 22,000 people. Intended for the purchase of 100% electric vehicles and other equipment for electric mobility, these donations amounted to €15,000 in support for each institution.
This is enabling the institutions to enhance their intervention with people in vulnerable situations, such as by increasing the monitoring of elderly people and people with special needs at medical appointments, mobile health screenings for homeless and dependent people, home support for elderly people, and distribution of essential goods to families in need.
“With the Solidarity in Mobility programme, we are strengthening the operational capacity of the social sector on the path to a just energy transition. By supporting the adoption of electric vehicles, we increase efficiency, reduce structural costs, and give institutions more autonomy to better serve their communities. Environmental impact and social impact are not competing factors. When well designed, they mutually reinforce each other," said Martim Salgado, global head of social investment at EDP and administrator of the EDP Foundation.
Launched in 2022, Solidarity in Mobility aims to support social sector organisations in the transition to electric mobility, enabling them to reduce operating costs, expand the reach of social responses, and contribute to the decarbonisation of the territory. Since its launch the programme has benefited 20 Private Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSS), which estimate that this support has enabled them to travel 207,868 electric kilometres, to avoid the emission of 27 tonnes of CO₂, and to have had 6,871 direct beneficiaries, resulting in an average annual saving of €1,200 per institution.
This year, projects were supported in Aveiro, Braga, Bragança, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Évora, Faro, Guarda, Leiria, Lisbon, Portalegre, Porto, Santarém, Setúbal, Vila Real, and Viseu.
