EDP FOUNDATION SUPPORTS RECONSTITUTION PROJECT AT THE MILLING FACTORY IN SESIMBRA

It is thought to have been built originally as horse stables, but it was adapted in the 1910s as a wheat and corn mill. The Sampaio milling factory, in Sesimbra, is known for using cereal from all over the region. Built at the beginning of the 20th century, this small rural mill began its decline and was deactivated during the 1980s and 1990s.

In 2012, EDP Foundation, under the project Ilumina o Património, and under its patronage policy, supported the plans of the Sesimbra council to preserve, add value and promote its heritage, particularly to promote the conservation and transformation into a museum of the Sampaio Milling Factory and its equipment, turning it into a museum complex.

With this programme, EDP Foundation supports projects which aim to preserve, add value and promote electric industrial heritage in Portugal. That’s why, in December 2016, the EDP Foundation went ahead with its support of this project to reconstitute in 3D the way in which the Sampaio Milling Factory worked, and particularly all of its mills and power generating machinery.

Open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday, the Sampaio Milling Factory also hosts events which promote local produce and producers.
