EDP FOUNDATION SUPPORTS CONSERVATION PROJECT AT THE LEVADA MUSEUM, IN TOMAR

As a result of the second edition of the EDP Foundation Programme – Ilumina o Património –, the equipment and machinery of the Levada Museum Power Station, in Tomar, were renovated. The project aims to safeguard the material cultural heritage, in order to ensure that current and future generations can access it.

The intervention followed the initial plan, which included the preservation of non-functioning in situ equipment, respecting the features or trademarks of the equipment and its components – from the time when they were deactivated and the end of the industrial context in which they operated, up to the current process of turning them into a museum.

This Power Station is a part of the Levada industrial complex which the Tomar Council has been preserving, including creating the Levada Museum, and is intrinsically linked to the beginning of public lighting through electric power in the city, dating back to 1902.
