EDP Foundation is the sole patron of the publication of “Guia de Arquitetura do Porto – 1942-2017” (“Guidebook to Porto’s Architecture – 1942-2017”), a book published by A+A Books and supported by the Porto Municipal Council.

The book has been published in a portable format, so it can be taken on walks and tours of the city. There are introductory texts about each area of the city, which was divided into parts in order to make it easier to locate the 200 plus examples of architectural works included in the guidebook. These were selected chronologically, starting with an example from the Modern Movement, from 1942: a residential building designed by Alfredo Viana de Lima, the architect who had already designed the first modern architecture building in Portugal, a house on Rua Honório de Lima (1941-43), influenced directly by Le Corbusier, and which unfortunately no longer exists. The examples chosen span the different decades all the way up to 2017, displaying a variety of typologies which reveal the challenges faced by architects and their teams.

This guidebook was classified as of Clear Cultural Interest by the Culture State Secretary, and each of the architectural examples selected includes specifications, a critical piece, photographs and drawings presented in fold-outs, according to their level of complexity, characteristics or their historical/critical relevance.
