João Maria Gusmão was born in Lisbon, in 1979; Pedro Paiva was also born in Lisbon, in 1977. They have worked together since 2001, creating objects, installations and short films, which they describe as “poetic and philosophical fiction”. Their work reveals a permanent dialogue between reality and fiction, humour and poetry, and it contains clear references to historical literature and mythology. They are currently two of the Portuguese young artists with the most prominent international profiles.
