Gabriel Abrantes was born in the USA, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in 1984. He graduated in Cinema and Visual Arts from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art (New York, 2006), and completed a post-graduate degree at Le Frenesnoy Studio National des Arts Contemporains (Tourcoing). He has held solo exhibitions since 2002. He received several awards, including the Golden Leopard Award for Best International Short Film at the 2010 Locarno Film Festival, for his film A History of Mutual Respect. He lives and works in Lisbon.
